Food in Peru

YUM YUM YUM.

the food in Peru is wonderful. at many of th e"tiendas" little sotres they have fresh empanads flled with chicken, beef, cheese... so many different options. they have incredible fresh smoothies, and always coffee everywhere. There are no walmarts, no food lions, no grocery stores. only small little markets on the side of the road. we do have a "larger" grocery store with produce and a few regular foods, milk, cocacola ect. a few blocks from our house.

In pucallpa, our missionary mom, Janet, made incredible food- lamb, chicken, steak, mashed potatoes, veggies, bread, salad each meal. she definitely spoiled us.

Here in Arequipa we eat a lot of rice, chicken, veggies. each day we have bread and jam for breakfast, eat lunch at 2:45 and usually have a light snack for dinner. sometimes we enjoy going out into the plaza for dinner or order pizza. there are many "chifa" restaurants. chifa is chinese food mixed with peruvian rice.

eating sweets is not very common here. only eat cake when celebratign big events ie. birthday parties and going away parties.

It has been a wonderful experience for my taste buds so far!
